Within Acupuncture theory summer is Fire time. Fire represents four Chinese organs, the Heart, Pericardium, Small Intestine and the Triple Burner.

Summer

Because of the link to the Heart, Fire is closely related to relationships of all kinds, particularly intimate partnerships and close friendships. This means that summer is an excellent opportunity to catch up and spend time with friends and those we love. I have to admit, I have been enjoying a lot of this over the last few weeks, which is why I’ve been a bit negligent of this blog!

Ted Talk

Again, due to the connection to the Heart, Fire energy can also be quite emotionally sensitive and even vulnerable, particularly, when we are not feeling strong and grounded in ourselves. Although this can feel uncomfortable, in this fantastic TED Talk, Berne Brown explains why vulnerability is absolutely essential to the authentic human connection our Hearts all long for.

I do love a TED Talk and this is definitely up there with the best of them. If you haven’t watched it, yet I urge you to do so now ; Happy Summer

Rachel Geary

Rachel Geary BA(Hons), Lic. Ac. MBAcC is a fully qualified acupuncturist, having graduated from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in 2002. She has previously practised in Inverness and Barnstaple. "I first became interested in acupuncture whilst I was at university studying History and Philosophy. I was particularly drawn to eastern philosophy, which I found particularly elegant and beautiful. I then went on to complete a three and a half year course of study in acupuncture and discovered it to exemplify these very same qualities.
